Are smart meters really smart? Bill of 9 lakhs came after installation of smart meter

At present, the process of installation of smart meters has been started in many states of India. But these meters have also put people in trouble. Because, people have strongly opposed the meter and the claim of the people is also that due to installation of such meter the electricity bill is much higher than before.

What is a smart meter?

A smartmeter is a type of electric electricity meter. Which works like a simple meter. But with the help of this meter you can see your electricity consumption only in the smartphone. This meter has an application in which the customer can also get the information about how much electricity is consumed every hour. This meter can pay prepaid electricity bill and pay as per consumption through app.

How do this meters work?

The customer has to recharge when the smartmeter is activated. It also has a chip that connects to your smartphone to help customers track electricity usage. So that the customer gets information about his usage every hour. Based on this information, people can also reduce power consumption. A smartmeter connects to your phone and provides information quickly.

Which places have started installing this meter?

Talking about it, the process of installing these meters has started in Gujarat, Bihar, Patna, Delhi, Maharashtra and many other states. There has been a controversy regarding meters in Gujarat for some days. Because this controversy has arisen by writing to many people with rupee bills. MGVCL, PGVCL and DGVCL have also given lakhs of electricity bills to the tenants.

Meter News

A smart meter was installed in a flat in Riddhi Siddhi in Gorwa area of Vadodara after which people received a bill of 9.24 lakhs. And the old bill of the same flat used to be 1500 to 2000 every two months. Therefore, seeing such a huge difference, people have lost their trust in meters. And people are protesting against removal of these meters.

However, after a lot of opposition from the people, now DGVCL Company will install a checking meter along with the smart power meter. The reading of both the meters will be checked in 10 to 15 days. And thereby remove the misunderstanding between old and new meters.

Difference between smart meter and simple meter

Simple meter

  • Claim of wasting electricity.
  • People claim that electricity is cheap.
  • There was no problem in paying bills.
  • Smartphone was not needed.
  • Electricity could be stolen.
  • If the bill is paid late, the electricity continues.
  • Exact daily consumption was not known.
  • Had to go to pay the bill when it came.
  • An employee used to come for bill reading.
  • Billing after consumption of electricity.

Smart meter

  • Electricity will be used properly.
  • People claim that electricity is expensive.
  • A normal person will have little problem.
  • Smartphone will be mandatory.
  • No one can steal electricity.
  • Once the recharge is complete, the power will go off.
  • Daily electricity consumption will be known.
  • Have to recharge already.
  • No need for bill reading.
  • Electricity can be used after paying first.

Conclusion

Some officials say that there are different electricity consumption slabs in Gujarat. So the price varies from 0 to 200 volt units, due to which the first customer in a prepaid smartmeter feels that the bill is low, but after consumption of 51 units the price increases and after 200 units the price increases and the meter appears to be spinning fast. Another reason could be that if the previous bill of the customer is outstanding and the smartmeter is activated, then the bill of the previous month is also shown in the smartmeter, so people seem to get more of this bill.
